The Tech Group specialises in high-end, highly demanding moulding applications, primarily in the medical and electronics fields. New Facilities Manager Keith Henderson began looking at the substantial costs associated with the production of compressed air. Working closely with Harold Engineering it was identified that major energy savings were possible if three separate problems were addressed. Storage capacity, variable speed control and accurate systems pressure control were identified and addressed with the introduction of air receivers, an Ingersoll Rand Nirvana variable speed controlled compressor and an Ingersoll Rand Intelliflow pressure control system. The payback on capital purchases is less than 18 months and system flexibility has been greatly improved. As well as delivering this energy saving, Harold Engineering also introduced an ERS Heat Recovery System to the Nirvana compressor, in order to use previously wasted heat to produce boiler feed water.
